If you ask many young people you’ll discover that many choose to not do a thing even though it’s right just because someone told them to do it. If you want to be a failure then you just have to resist correction. In life you need someone to tell you what to do, they must be someone who corrects you because no matter how many times you make a mistake it’ll remain a mistake.
If you want to see a fool look at someone without a mentor or pastor(I don’t mean someone who preaches to you on Sunday). No matter how spiritual you are if you don’t listen to the people God spends to you, you cannot listen to God because if you can’t hear people you see how can you hear God whom you cannot see. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?(1 John 4:20).
A wise son heareth his father’s instruction:but a scorner heareth not rebuke.(Proverbs 13:1).
In this life you need to receive and accept both instruction and correction because you’re not the first person to live in this earth and everything you want to do someone has done the it or has done something similar. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.(ecclesiastes 1:9)
Why should I accept and receive correction
1. It is part of learning. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.(Proverbs 19:20). When you receive correction you learn how to properly do things and as a result receive wisdom.
2. It is part of instruction. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:(2 Timothy 3:16). Correction almost always comes in the form of “don’t do… ” while instruction comes in the form of “do… “. Correction and instruction are two sides of one coin hence you cannot have once without the other
3.. You grow in wisdom. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.(Proverbs 8:33), Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser:teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.(Proverbs 9:9)
Next time I’ll address why it is important to learn a new thing.
