2. The deception of freedom
Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.(Daniel 1:4-5)
This might seem odd but the truth is freedom can be deceptive when it is not approached with wisdom and the conviction of the Holy Spirit, this is why you find Christians who drink alcohol in the name of “we are under grace not the law” and some who smoke because it’s not written in the Bible.
All the Hebrew boys besides Daniel and his three friends had no problem eating food sacrificed to idols because they tought that because they were chosen for their purity they can’t loose it. The valued the king’s words over the Word of God.
Yes they had a right and are free to eat if they want to because God gave them a choice, but note that your choice determines how God will relate to you. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.(Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
Ladies and gentlemen never let freedom or rights get to your mind because the more rights you have, the more responsibility you have and one day you’ll give account for it.
