In the past few weeks we have been looking at what causes people to loose their salvation and today we’ll be looking at the last thing. The Lord put it this in my heart a few weeks after I wrote the other three points, and I believe this is something we all must watch out for because it has taken many from the faith.
And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.(Luke 12:16-21).
One of the easiest things to be in this life is to be selfish because there are so many reasons which promote selfishness, and this is why the Lord Jesus Christ said that to follow him you have to deny yourself. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.(Matthew 16:24). Many of us who say we are Christians have on denied ourselves, because we don’t mind wherethere our neighbours have eaten or have a place to sleep. When was the last time you gave to a charity or somebody in need? When was the last time you gave or prayed for souls to be saved.
The reason why selfish people don’t stay in the faith for long is because the Lord is anti-selfishness, just as Jesus gave his life for our salvation so must we loose things for the salvation or aid of another. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.(Matthew 16:25).
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.(Matthew 25:37-40)
Charity from the heart is the expression of true love, please note that charity from the heart is not what we see celebrities doing, where they take pictures and distribute them in order for them to be seen as good by the public [DISCLAIMER : am not suggesting that all celebrities or philanthropist give to charity for fame or personal gain], when you are truly selfless you don’t advertise your the whole when you give. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:(Matthew 6:3).
