5. to kill
Many of us think of killing only as murder, but the truth is many things can be killed and some things can only be killed by words.
The trust that Joseph’s master had for Joseph was killed the moment he believed that Joseph wanted to rape his wife. The reputation of Elisha was killed the moment Gehazi told Naaman that Elisha changed his mind about the gifts. Adam’s relationship with God was killed the moment he took the snake’s advice. And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.(Genesis 39:19).So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well? And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.(2 Kings 5:21-22). And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.(Genesis 3:4 l-5).
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.(John 8:44).
The Bible in the book of John says that the devil was a murder from the beginning and didn’t stay in the truth, so basically anyone who can lie is capable of murder. As I said earlier killing doesn’t only mean to take a life. Many people have never taken a knife or gun and killed a person but they have killed people’s dreams and reputations. Some have spread rumours that tarnished the image of another person and that person has never recovered, that’s a prime example of using lies to kill.
Ladies and gentlemen never think you can take back what you’ve said or the impact of your words by saying “I withdraw my statement,” because words are like the rain, once it falls down it can never go back up. Never say anything that you don’t mean about another person because you might ruin the person’s life and end up regretting your words.
The Romans never wanted to crucify Jesus Christ but because the Jews kept on telling lie upon lie and topped them up with witnesses the Romans ended up giving in. Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:(Luke 23:14), And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.(Luke 23:2).
Never spread false news about another person and never speak evil about your brother because your words might deny them an opportunity of a lifetime which can’t be brought back by an apology. Make it a point to always act in love and display the love of Christ to everyone you meet irrespective of what they have done to you. Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;(Matthew 5:43-44)
