The Gospel’s prosperity pt 1

Dear friend, I pray that you may prosper in every way and be in good health physically just as you are spiritually.(3 John 1:2)

What is prosperity

I want us to look at something that is controversial to some in the Christian world, we will be looking prosperity and to be specific we’ll be looking at God’s version of prosperity.
Let’s start by looking at what prosperity is, according to Google’s dictionary prosperity is the state of being prosperous.“a long period of peace and prosperity”wealth, success, profitability, affluence, riches, opulence, the good life, (good) fortune, ease, plenty, welfare, comfort, security, well-being;.
so we now see that basically prosperity means wealth or success, and we need to understand that not all prosperity is from God. The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.(Proverbs 10:22).
That not all prosperity is from God is proof that God is not responsible for making anyone prosper, God wants you to prosper that’s why He blessed you but He won’t work for you.
He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.(Proverbs 28:19)
Prosperity is the reward of hard work, if you are not willing to till your ground no amount of prayer can make you prosper. If you want to be successful you have to pay the price and the price of success is hard work.

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule:but the slothful shall be under tribute.(Proverbs 12:24)
You hear of how many people like Bill Gates would sometimes sleep in their office’s or how often they would skip bathing and that led them be where they are today. Jesus Christ is the most successful religious leader ever because He is the only one who willingly died for His followers. If you want to be successful be willing to pay the price.

The analogy of soul wining like a fishermen

And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”(Matthew 4:19)
Last time I shared with you that one of the special things about fishermen is their ability to work together, and I promised to share with you the analogy of fishing in terms of soul wining.
There are basically two common ways to fish, you can use a net(fishing net) or a rod with a hook(fishing rod). Both instruments have their own style and requirements for getting the job done. Let us start by looking at the fishing rod style of soul wining.
1.The fishing rod way of soul wining
This method of soul wining is not for the impatient because you may need to wait before your fish gets hooked. In order for the fishermen to catch a fish using the fishing rod, he/she needs a lure (bate) that will be used to hide the hook, because no fish is stupid enough to bike a naked hook. Fishermen who use fishing rods always have someone that will serve as a lure(bate), it could be anything from worms to another type of fish, it depends of the kind of fish the fishermen is after.
In terms of soul wining this kind of strategy can simply be called the ONE MAN ONE SOUL, a soul winner simply just has a single person as his/her target and then goes with his/her hook(the message of repentance, salvation and judgment) and covers it with a lure(the message of love, redemption and forgiveness). This method of soul winning is used by those who do door to door evangelism or those who only preach to one person at a time.
Jesus made his desciples fishers because he knew that some times they will meet people who will never repent until they are lured by the love of God. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”(Mark 1:17).
2.The fishing net way of soul wining
This method of fishing doesn’t work everywhere, you can’t use this method if the waters are shallow. In order to fish using a fishing net you’ll need a boat and at least one partner, this method catches many fish in one go. One person will be in the boat while the one is in at the opposite of the boat and close to the shore, the net will stretch from the person on the boat to the person close to the shore. The two parties will eventually come together as the one close to the shore moves away from it and goes to the boat. The fish between the men on foot and the boat will get caught by the net.
In terms of soul wining, this type of method is used in crusades and open-air evangelism, there is no specific target the main aim is winning as many souls as possible. This method is very critical because for it to work it needs collaboration, there may be one preacher but the preacher needs others to create an audience for him/her.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”(Matthew 28:19-20)
May we all be fishers of men so that the kingdom of God will grow and the messenge of Christ will reach all the corners of the world.
Thank you ladies and gentlemen for being part of softteachings, today (18th July) I’m celebrating the 9th anniversary of the day I gave my life to Christ, it has been a wonderful journey and by the grace of God it’s only just a small teaser of what is to come. Next week God willing, we’ll start a new topic. Shalom

Fishermen work together

So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.( Luke 5:7)
For the past few weeks we have been looking at what is special about fishing, that Jesus used it as an example to show what is souls wining. Today we are looking at the last factor that makes fishing so special that Jesus referred to soul wining as fishing men.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.( Matthew 4:19)

It may seem insignificant to others to point out that one of the reasons Jesus likened soul winning to fishing is that fishermen work together, because denominations are united. But the truth is that the unity Jesus saw in fishermen and the unity we have in the church are not the same. The church of Christ is United as denominations but there is very little inter-denominational unity.

For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.( 1 Corinthians 1:11-12)

This is still a problem because today we find pastors vocally attacking other pastors in the pulpit, we have believer’s rejoicing in the downfall of another believer just because they don’t attend the same church. The people that are affected the most are those who win souls, these people are now forced to play lawyer because they really preaching about a person who united the world with God and they must also justify the division among believers.

I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be denominations but I’m saying that that shouldn’t divide us, as long as we believe in one saviour and are following his footsteps we are one and we should relate as such. Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.( 1 Corinthians 3:5-8).

The unity of the church is as important as it’s message, because the unity reveals it’s message that will bring men close to God. Now the large group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common. And the apostles were giving testimony with great power to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on all of them. For there was not a needy person among them, because all those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet. This was then distributed for each person’s basic needs.Joseph, a Levite and a Cypriot by birth, the one the apostles called Barnabas, which is translated Son of Encouragement,( Act 4:32-36).

Next week good willing I’ll share with you the analogy of winning souls like a fisher men.

I apologize for the delay in sharing this message, the phone I used for planing, writing and sharing the messages isn’t working anymore and I’m currently working on replacing it as soon as possible. Thank you for being patient and God bless you.

Fisherman persevere

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.(Luke 5:5).

Last week we saw that one of the reasons Jesus referenced fishing to soul winning is because fisherman are patient so that they can do their work, because sometimes they might not catch anything no matter how hard they work. Today we will look at another reason and this reason works together with patience, and this reason is nothing else but perseverance.

Some of us may think that perseverance and patience mean the same thing but in reality they don’t. While means the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious, perseverance means persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. patience people can go for outreach and soul winning and not complain, but if they don’t win a soul the lack of results can make them not to go back again, this is why we need to persevere because perseverance gives us the drive to keep going back to win souls until the whole world is saved and patience makes us not to complain.

According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.(Philippians 1:20-21)

It was patience and perseverance that made the apostles to move forward despite the challenges and hardship they faced. Perseverance and patience is the reason why we as the church are still gladly waiting for the day of the Lord.

In anything you are doing you need to persevere and be patient in order to be successful, and this is essential if you are praying for someone to give his/her life to Christ because you are going to face discouraging challenges. Thomas Edison had around five thousand failed attempts before he eventually created the light bulb.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.(2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Let us work and persevere for the Lord until we receive the crown of glory despite the challenges we face.

Fishing requires patience

But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.(Romans 8:25)

Let’s look at one of the major characteristics of every fisherman, which is patience. Very person that beats the odds had ocean loads worth of patience.

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.(Luke 5:5).

Nothing fuels hard work like patience and dedication. If you are truly passionate about something, you will be willing to loose sleep because of it. Jesus simply wanted to turn the passion his disciples had of catching into a passion for catching men. Because they almost had all the necessary requirements to catch men, but they couldn’t start before they changed their focus.

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.(Ecclesiastes 9:10)

The passion for doing God’s work is the standard we Christians should use as the children of God, hence working for God is our greatest passion. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;(Colossians 3:23).

Fishing proves that patience pays, and since we are called to be fishers of men we should diligently be patient while we are busy fishing.

Next week we’ll look at another factor that makes fisherman special.

The wisdom of fishing

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.(Matthew 4:19)

We are going to study one of the oldest professions in human history and discover what is so special about it that made Jesus a promise to His would be disciples, and use it as a description of what He will make them but only for the purpose of catching men. This profession is fishing.

There is something special about fishing that qualifies it to be used as a metaphor by Jesus to show pater James and John how they’ll save men

When you study the gospels, you’ll notice that Jesus used likened the kingdom of heaven to many scenarios and theses scenarios are it easier for people to grasp what the kingdom of is.

Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:(Matthew 13:31)

Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.(Matthew 13:33)

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:(Matthew 13:44-45).

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:(Matthew 13:47)

The words of Jesus are key and it’s important to study them closely, because they contain great revelations.

We are bonded by love

And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.(Acts 4:32)

This is the last reason why the poor need the Gospel that I’ll share with you before we move on.

And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.(Act 4:32-35)

Another reason why the poor need the Gospel is because when they are saved they’ll join a union that will physical meet their needs. The love that God has called us into makes us selfless so that we can properly see and attend to the needs of our brethren. The Unity that we have in Christ is greater than any bond that can fuse people together. The blood of Jesus is brings us closer than our family’s blood and it doesn’t care about race or culture.

The poor need the church(body of Christ) to be United because a single denomination is not enough to display the love God has for them. Sometimes words are not enough to preach, actions are always enough to preach. Christ took away what divided men by destroying what separated men from God.

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.(Genesis 11:1-6)

Nothing empowers men like unity that’s why God gave us one mediator so that we may be United in one. How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.(Hebrew 9:14-15).

So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.(Romans 12:5).

Make it a point to display the love of God to everyone because it’s a testament to the love God has for them.
