How to love God: the proof of your love

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.(Mark 12:30)

In the previous teachings we have been looking at how to love God, I believe that before we move on we have to look at something the bible says about loving God.

If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.(1 John 4:20).

The bible says the if you say you love God and hate your brother, you are a liar. The reason for branding such a person as a liar is because it concludes that you can’t love God or something you can’t see while hating someone you can see.

Your love for God has to be seen through your love for people, because God loves people that’s why he sent His son to die for people and also instructed us to preach the good news to people. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.(John 3:16), Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Matthew 28:19).

If you truly love God you will be able to do something for somebody else so that they can receive the light of the word of God.

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.(Luke 1:1-4)

Consider everyone around you just as you consider yourself, because that’s how the Lord and people can verify your love for God.

How to be rich towards God : Love Him with your strength

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.(Mark 12:30)
We have been learning on how we love God, and we saw that we are supposed to love God with your heart, soul, and mind. Today we’ll look at what it means to love God with your strength.
When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.”
“Feed My lambs,” He told him.
A second time He asked him, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.”
“Shepherd My sheep,” He told him.
He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
Peter was grieved that He asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, You know everything! You know that I love You.”
“Feed My sheep,” Jesus said. (John 21:15-17)
From the Book of John 21:15-17 we learn that to love God with your strength is to use your strength to serve serve Him. Meaning you can never say you love God with all your strength if you don’t work for God with your strength.
Some may be wondering, “how do I work for God with my strength?” the answer to your question is found in Matthew 28:19: Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
The first thing Jesus said in Matthew 28 verse 19 is “Go”, hence if you are not willing to travel because of the work or anything related to the church you don’t love God. You can’t claim to love God with all your being while you don’t belong to any department in the church you attend, if you fully love God your love for Him push you to find something to do for Him.
If I say, “I won’t mention Him or speak any longer in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones. I become tired of holding it in, and I cannot prevail. (Jeremiah 20:9)
When your strength doesn’t love God you will never be a faithful giver or be able to consistently pray because when your heart and mind agree to give or pray, your strength which controls your hands and mouth will manipulate your mind. But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property. However, he kept back part of the proceeds with his wife’s knowledge, and brought a portion of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet.(Acts 5:1-2). Then He came and found them sleeping. “Simon, are you sleeping?” He asked Peter. “Couldn’t you stay awake one hour? Stay awake and pray so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”(Mark 14:37-38).
Make sure that your strength is applying the same effort in the work of God as your soul, heart, and mind so that you can fully be productive

How to be rich towards God: Love Him with your mind

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.(Mark 12:30)
In the last two teachings we started looking at what we should love God with, and we saw what it means to love God with your heart and soul. Today we’ll look at loving God with your mind.
When you love God with your mind it means you have a reason that makes you love Him and as a result you will always think about Him. Anything your mind loves it will always gravitate towards. When I think of You as I lie on my bed,I meditate on You during the night watches because You are my helper; I will rejoice in the shadow of Your wings.(Psalms 63:6-7).
It is important that your mind meditates in the word of God because it’s transformation comes from there(the word of God), and since your mind controls your physical body it will give you power to subdue your body. Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.(Romans 12:1-2).
This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to recite it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do.(Joshua 1:8)
Make it a point to always read and meditate in the word of God so that your mind will be saturated with the Lord and your love for the Lord will be built.

How to be rich towards God:Love Him with your soul

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.(Mark 12:30)
Last time we started looking at how to be rich towards God and we saw that we first have to love God with our hearts. Today we are moving to the second point, which is loving God with your soul.
The simplest explanation of what a soul is the inner part of your being which controls feelings and desires that you can’t explain why you have them.
Your soul is what controls your peace. Things like liking someone you’ve just met or preferring coffee over tea even though you don’t have any bad experience with either if your soul. Have I not wept for those who have fallen on hard times?Has my soul not grieved for the needy?(Job 30:25).
Your soul is the biggest influencer of your heart because unlike your mind it doesn’t have to give reasons to your heart, hence if you love God with your heart you can’t explain why you live Him so much. We see this type of action when God gave Christ for redemption. “For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.(John 3:16).
When your soul loves God you no longer need a reason to pray or go to church. When your soul loves no amount of reason will explain why you serve him or why you praise him.
When you always need a reason to serve or praise God, you will end up falling into temptation because the devil will always give you a reason for not serving or praising God, he can even qoute bible verse to “prove” his point. The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit from the trees in the garden. But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.’” “No! You will not die,” the serpent said to the woman. “In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”(Genesis 3:2-5). Then the Devil took Him to the holy city, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He will give His angels orders concerning you, and they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”(Matthew 4:5-6).
May your soul fall in love with God so that you will never fall into temptation.
Next time will look at the last two things that you should love God with.

How to be rich towards God: love him with your heart

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.(Matthew 6:33)
In the last teaching we saw what it means to be rich towards God, now we’ll look at how to be rich towards God.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.(Mark 12:30)
As Christians are given two laws, which are to Love God and to love our neighbour. The first command is what teaches us how to be rich towards God. The first three things which we are commanded to love God with are internal and they influence our external components.
The first thing we love God with is our heart, meaning that we must be passionate about God and His work. Anyone you have given your heart, you want to the that person joyful and happy at all times and you will do anything in your power to make sure that they are always like that.
So Jacob worked seven years for Rachel, and they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.(Genesis 29:20),
Now Israel loved Joseph more than his other sons because Joseph was a son born to him in his old age, and he made a robe of many colors for him.(Genesis 37:3). Hence if you love God with your heart, then winning souls for him because it makes him happy is something you will do joyfully. I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”(Luke 15:10).
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.(John 3:16).
Another factor of loving God with your heart, is buying or giving gifts to Him. If your hands can’t express what you say with your mouth, it means that the sincerity of your love is in question. I love you without a lovely gift is fake. If God gave in order to express His love, it means everyone also has to give to express their love.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than his other sons because Joseph was a son born to him in his old age, and he made a robe of many colors for him.(Genesis 37:3).
We’ll continue with the other points on the following teaching.

Being rich towards God

So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.(Luke 12:21).
In the previous teaching we learned about the prosperity of the spirit and the things which indicate whether the spirit prospers.
I want us to look at being rich towards God, we’ll look at what it means and later on how to be rich towards God. Bit first I want us to slightly look at the story which Jesus used to derive this statement.
And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”(Luke 12:16-21).
In this story we have a man who was so rich that he didn’t have enough space to store his wealth, thus he decided to expand his storage. Unfortunately for him, after he had done so, God took his soul. Jesus says that the same end awaits anyone who is like this rich man.
Being rich towards God is simply making the things of God to have the highest priority in your life. We are commanded to seek the kingdom of God first before anything else, someone who goes to church regularly might think that they’ve got this covered, but the question which, it’s answers indicates whether you got this covered is, when you get money what’s the first thing you think of?
You can’t claim to put the kingdom first when tithing is the last thing you think about. “Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Matthew 6:19-21). Investing your resources on the kingdom of God has it’s own reward. The end of the rich men came because he only invested in earthly things, never let the temporary earthly riches blind you from the everlasting glory and wealth you will receive when you invest in the kingdom of God.
In Luke 12, the rich man was only interested in himself, don’t be like him, think of your brethren. If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For the person who does not love his brother he has seen cannot love the God he has not seen.(1 John 4:20)

The Gospel’s prosperity pt2 : Prosperity of the spirit

Dear friend, I pray that you may prosper in every way and be in good health physically just as you are spiritually.(3 John 1:2)
Last time we saw what prosperity truly is, and now we are moving forward to look at what is spiritual prosperity.
We have to look at spiritual prosperity because according to 3 John 1:2 our physical state of wellbeing must reflect our spiritual stance. As children of God we must excell in all spiritual things and that excellence must reflect in our physical lives, meaning that a Christian who is a billioner must have a good fasting life. I won’t go into what is spirituality because I have already shared it with you in previous teachings, I’ll just share the link to the teaching here.
I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?(1 Corinthians 3:2-4)
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.(Hebrews 5:13-14)
I’m the book of 1 Corinthians Paul says that he purposefully withheld some of the principles and truth of the Gospel from the belivers in Corinth, the reason he gave for his actions is that they were still too carnal because they were devided and envious. Meaning the spiritual level of a Christian or church(denomination) is seen by how united they are or how they promote unity wherever they are. Playing politics in church or seeking a position at all costs is a sign of spiritual immaturity. If your carnal nature is still alive and well then you are spiritually poor.
The prosperity of your spirit is seen by how easy it is for your spirit to dominate your physical nature. But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.( 1 Corinthians 9:27). The more control you have over your body the more prosperous your spirit is, the only way this can be achieved is by having the Word of God grow in you. Those who listen to sermons and read the Bible and biblical books are the one’s whose souls are prospering.
And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.(Matthew 13:3-9)
Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.(Matthew 13:18:23)
How you receive the word of God determines what it will achieve in you. Don’t neat pick the bible, everything God put in there is for your own good. Receive the Word of God in it’s totality and it will transform your life. Your soul needs the Word of God in order to be prosperous. The more you know the Word the more prosperous your soul will be.
